The label “Bodywork ®” came to me whilst I was driving on the M1 in the pouring rain, way back in 1981. I was behind a large truck and I happened to notice the mudflaps on its rear tyres. They read “Bodywork by” …referring to the makers of the trucks box design, and a light bulb was lit up in my head.

I immediately called my trademarks attorney in London, and a year later it was my registered mark. I had a retail outlet in the world famous Covent Garden indoor market in London and other London based locations. The brand was quite successful through the 80’s and the 90’s as imprinted and embroidered fleece and jersey sportswear for both men and women. I was particularly proud of the lycra viloft towelling range of leisurewear for women.
The noughties started well, and I had very successful shops in Oxford Street, the Trocadero Centre in Piccadilly and shopping centres in Southampton, Basildon, and Gravesend. Unfortunately, the terrorist bomb attack in Piccadilly in 2007 coupled with the global recession that followed in 2008/2009 caused me unimaginable financial problems. I did all I could to hold on, but within three years I was forced to close my company and all of the shops, and I personally lost many thousands of pounds, narrowly avoiding bankruptcy.
